Malawi, often called the “Warm Heart of Africa,” is a small yet vibrant country located in southeastern Africa. It is famous for its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and friendly people. As an ALT from Malawi, I want to share some of the unique features of my home country and highlight some differences between Malawi and Japan.
One of Malawi’s most famous attractions is Lake Malawi. This massive lake is not only beautiful but also home to diverse fish species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Swimming, snorkeling, and boat rides are popular activities here. In Japan, people enjoy the sea and beaches, but the freshwater lake experience in Malawi offers a different charm.
Malawi is a melting pot of cultures and traditions. We celebrate various festivals throughout the year, such as the Umthetho festival, which showcases our rich heritage through music and dance. In Japan, festivals are significant too, but the themes often focus on seasonal changes or historical events. Our cultural celebrations are deeply rooted in community.
